Muslim Community Resources
Brief
Tātai Aho Rau was approached by educators from the Muslim community in Christchurch seeking support in building knowledge and understanding about what it means to be Muslim. We were contracted by the Ministry of Education to create materials that would introduce the viewer to aspects of life as a Muslim child, to grow tolerance and work towards social cohesion in the community.
Our solution
We worked with the Muslim community to create 2 videos, each focusing on one Muslim family, with the children talking about their everyday lives. In preparing the stories we worked with an expert panel to achieve agreement on key messages, our production approach, and to establish a relationship with the Muslim families featured in the stories.
The videos feature the children talking about the the various ways their beliefs are integrated into everyday activities at home and at school.
